New Work:

Left Coast Love

6 x 8 inches, oil on canvas

“Left Coast Love” is a small study inspired by ocean views where the sun always sets over the sea. Growing up near the Oregon Coast, I gain a sense of calm and rightness with the world seeing a view like this.

I hope it gives you that same sense of hope and serenity.

“Summer’s End”

This painting is inspired by the rope swing that marks my son’s favorite spot at the lake where we spend time each summer. Paddling out is a journey, but when you arrive, it is pure joy.

The first time we went, the whole experience was freedom and excitement and personal triumph. I don’t think I realized all of that until after I had painted it, though. I just knew I had this incredible experience and I HAD to paint it. I couldn’t work on anything else until it was done. I painted so fast, most of the paint was applied directly from the palette knife, mixing colors and scraping them on without even bothering with a brush.

I hope when you see this painting it fills you with a sense of serenity and takes you to those private places in your mind where personal triumph reigns over fears. I hope it helps you face each new day’s challenges with a sense of peace and certainty.

My definition of healing art:

I believe art can be beautiful, or ugly.

Art can be serene or challenging.

Good art makes us feel and think.

Healing art makes us discuss and grow.
